Caravanning through the winter
Many of the modern caravans today have a proper heating system and double glazing which helps keep the caravan warm and nice during the winters. These modern facilities encourage people to go caravanning with their children during Christmas when the weather is really cold.
Certain important tips to be remembered while caravanning during winters are mentioned below:
- The caravans should consist of DVDs and also board games as it is not conducive to play games outdoors during winter, especially at night.
- The caravans should be checked before beginning of any journey. The caravan lights, battery, brake fluid level, tyre pressures must especially be checked.
- As a safety precaution, the caravan should be fitted with snow and mud tyres during winters.
- All the movable parts in a caravan must be properly oiled, to prevent them from seizing up during winters.
- It is always wise to carry a survival kit in the caravan as a safety measure. The survival kit must include ice scraper, spare batteries, torch, spades warm clothing and a first aid kit.
- It is advisable to keep a mobile phone with you in a caravan during the travel. Make sure the mobile battery is fully charged.
- It is practical to have an internal container for water rather than an external one, since the latter could freeze during winter.
- It is preferable to use propane gas rather than butane gas during winter. The adaptor could be purchased from caravan accessory shops.
- Overnight use of a gas heater could lead to poisoning by carbon monoxide, so it is advised against it. It is more advisable to use electric heaters.
- A caravan should consist of heated shower blocks and showers to make it more comfortable while holidaying during winters.
